Nicole Putratz a Registered Nurse NASM Certified who loves fitness

3 Mins read

Hi, my name is Nikki, and I am a registered nurse and certified surgical assistant at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN. I have worked in health care for 23 years! I am also a NASM certified personal trainer and ACE certified group fitness instructor.

I have always been into health and fitness since I was in high school. It is a passion of mine! I have been training and instructing for 9 years now and it still gets me so excited to help others live a healthy lifestyle, look beautiful, feel strong and confident in who they are! I am married to an amazing man, Nate who supports me in everything I do. We have been together for 10 years; we have a daughter who is 15 and her name is Lexus. We also have a boxer who is 10 years old, and her name is Lilly- she is quite the diva 😊 I enjoy spending time with family and friends, shopping, going out on the river, traveling, and relaxing.

I really started getting into fitness in my mid 20’s- that is when I really focused on training and pursuing more of the fitness industry. I started teaching classes at gym in my hometown and then started training clients. At 28 years old, I then decided that I wanted to challenge myself in a different way and decided that I wanted to do a bikini competition. Fall of 2013 was my first competition and mind you during prep I was also planning my own wedding and in a wedding for a friend- that was a challenge lol! I did a show and fell in love! I have since competed in 6 bikini competitions, placing at each show. I got 5th in my first show all the way to 1st – placing every show! I keep going back and forth whether I will compete again…I am really enjoying life, eating, having cocktails, and going on more vacations so you never know! Right now I am focusing on lifting heavy, building my glutes, shoulders and back up and eating out more often.

Macros

I have always tracked macros and would not have it any other way! It allows you to learn how to eat all foods and still reach your fitness goals. I am one that can eat the same things over and over and not get sick of it. I eat a lot of chicken, fish, lean ground beef, egg whites, veggies, oats, bagels, rice, potatoes, animal crackers, yogurt, salads, etc. I have a couple free meals a week and that may be pizza, dairy queen blizzards, sushi, nachos, pancakes, cookies, – those are my usual go to indulgences. As for workouts, I love to mix it up! I will take classes, spin, strength training (which is my fav), hot yoga, running, plyometrics. I absolutely love to lift shoulders and legs! I train 5-6 days a week and my workouts average 1-2 hours depending on the day and what I am lifting. I will do cardio each day as well but only 10-20 min.

I have days where I have zero motivation

I am like every one of you, I have days where I have zero motivation, but I overcome them by either listening to my body and taking a rest day or I will listen to motivational speakers on YouTube to help. I also set my alarm and get up as soon as it goes off, I do not push snooze!  I take pre workout to help wake me up and give me the focus I need to get me through the workout. I take classes or have a friend train with me too!

If you are new to working out, I would suggest getting yourself an accountability partner, a trainer or coach, take classes at your local gym or do a program that is one you can do at home on the TV. Find a meal plan that is easy and allows you to eat the foods you love. Do not deprive yourself or starve yourself, take it one step at a time, ask for help and reach out to your inspirations! Write out your goals weekly and your why, look at them every day and remind yourself why you are doing this. This also helps keep me motivated! Remember this is YOUR journey, no one else’s. You do what you enjoy to sustain a healthy lifestyle!

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and know that you can reach out to me anytime for advice, help or encouragement! I will always be your cheerleader 😊
